Welcome to the latest addition to the Community Prevention Initiative website. We are pleased to bring you a Research Corner to keep you current on the latest strategies for community wellness. Check this Corner regularly because each month you can expect to find a new topic and the latest research about that topic.

Our first topic is prescription drug abuse. We invite you to read and download these resources:

• Dr. Richard A. Friedman, The Changing Face of Teenage Drug Abuse – The Trend toward Prescription Drugs, posted with permission from the New England Journal of Medicine.

• A Background Briefing Paper that summarizes Prescription Medications Commonly Abused, Prevalence of Use, At-Risk Populations, Availability of Prescription Drugs, and Recommendations for Education, Early Intervention, and Monitoring

• A Research Update that highlights the different kinds of non-medical prescription drug use that exist and research on the risks and recommended prevention efforts for various demographic groups

• Research References that include a webcast and abstracts from the peer reviewed journal articles used in the writing of the Research Update
