Research to Practice: Trends in the Field
The Power of Prevention
This publication series is intended to show the critical role that substance abuse prevention plays in improving outcomes within related issue areas. The value of substance abuse prevention is emphasized, with special attention given to the cost-benefits of prevention work in each of the selected areas. The publications communicate clear messages for the substance abuse prevention field to expand their reach and influence. Each publication will address how preventing addiction and mitigating the problems associated with substance use greatly benefits the healthcare field, in the realm of both mental and physical health. Other areas include a study of the influence on school operation and student well-being, and also how public health, which emphasizes both community health and individual health, is enriched when substance abuse prevention efforts are integrated into the work.
Community Indicators
The overall intent of the Indicator reports is to provide a simple, easy-to-use resource that helps synthesize and interpret the most relevant indicator data currently available to assess substance use problems, in an effort to optimize prevention planning and outcome measurement efforts in communities through the state.
